From the Newsroom
Consider this. When we gather together in our own churches on Sunday, April 16, 2006, we will be celebrating the victory of Easter as District churches for 100 years. Imagine all of the saints who have gone before us, who faithfully proclaimed the Good News of Jesus Christ so that we today can say "Christ has risen!" "He has risen indeed!" In the words of a song of years past, "Oh may all who come behind us find us faithful."
What is in the plans of your church for the next year, ten years or distant future? As we celebrate our past, we also must look forward to our future. How might God want to use your church to help connect people to Jesus? How intentional will we be in communicating to message of Jesus to those souls now lost in their sin? How do we go beyond caring for ourselves and become passionate for those not a part of our church? Those are questions that we all must respond to as we look to the future of our Texas District. I would love to hear from you on what your church is doing or plans to do in any of those areas.
Plans for celebration and recognition of our centennial continue to unfold as we near the District Convention. The opening worship will be heavily influenced by work from the Centennial Task Force. Special "100th Moments" will be interspersed during the convention proceedings. Historical artifacts will be on display throughout the convention. There will be a special presentation from Trinity in Houston, the site of the Southern Convention in 1906 where the vote was cast to begin the Texas District. All in all it should be a true moment of celebration.
Dave Goeke, our Task Force Historian, is looking for some unique artifacts to round out his display. If you possess an artifact that you think might be of interest to him, you may call him at 210-690-3135. Please understand that he is in need of just a few select items and he may not be able to use yours. However, you may have just what he needs, so give him a call.
As always, ideas, suggestions, or information I should have can be sent to me at email@example.com. You may also call me at 325-784-7870.
May you find much joy, peace and hope that comes from knowing Jesus as our Savior and our Lord.John Goeke
