Dedication by a few people from Katy and the surrounding area gave Memorial Lutheran its start in Katy. Services were first held in various places, often a home, and only about once a month on average. Between 1940 and 1944 Pastor Arthur Simmons of Christ Lutheran, Pattison, served the mission in Katy.

Rev. Richard Brandt succeeded Pastor Simmons and conducted regular worship services in the old school house which is now the site of Katy Elementary. Twenty-eight people attended the services regularly, and in 1945, Memorial was chartered and joined the Lutheran Church - Missouri Synod.

As the need arose for a more permanent church building, the congregation purchased a partially constructed, white frame house on the property where the Parish Hall now exists. This served as Chapel, Sunday School Building and Parish Hall for three years.

In 1947, Rev. Elmo Miertchin served as vacancy Pastor until Rev. H. J. Schlicker accepted a call to Katy. With 75 baptized and 45 communicant members, a larger building was needed. On October 8, 1947, the new sanctuary was dedicated and served the congregation well until the present Sanctuary was constructed in 1978.

In 1950, Rev. A. C. Liefer was installed to serve Katy, Pattison and also Hempstead. During this time, the land where the Parsonage now sits was purchased. With 129 souls there became a need for an educational facility and Parish Hall. In 1953, the property where our current Fellowship Center is now, was purchased. On this property stood a small frame house that served as a Sunday School building, Parish Hall and youth activity center.

In July of that same year, David R. Hermann was installed as the first full-time Pastor at Memorial Lutheran. During the next several years the Parish Hall and Sunday School rooms were added and the congregation grew to almost 200 members.

In 1960, Pastor Alvin Musgrove was installed, and in 1969, construction on the Parsonage was completed. Also at this time, the land where the present Sanctuary is now located was purchased. Pastor Oscar Horn followed Pastor Musgrove from 1969 to 1973.

In 1973, Pastor Richard Loomis came to Memorial Lutheran and the congregation continued to grow. During the following years the construction of the new Sanctuary, the conversion of the old Sanctuary into classrooms , and the plans for the Fellowship Center were completed. Due to illness, Pastor Loomis resigned in 1988, and Pastor Thomas Hadley served as vacancy Pastor for almost a year.

In 1989, Rev. I. Melvin Newman was installed as Pastor. Later that year, the Richard V. Loomis Fellowship Center was dedicated.

In 1993, the Memorial Lutheran Preschool and Kindergarten opened with Karen Newman serving as director. Also that same year, Rev. John Davis accepted a call to Memorial Lutheran as Associate Pastor.

In 1998, with over 1000 members, the congregation added two more full-time positions, with Linda Stahmer serving as Music Director and Lisa Marie Glotzhober assigned as Director of Chrisitan Education Intern.

In 1999, Jason Christ became our second Director of Christian Education Intern.

In 2001, Rev. Erik W. Stadler was installed as Associate Pastor.

In 2005, Nathan Engman was assigned as Director of Christian Education Intern. Also, in June of 2005 Rev. I. Melvin Newman accepted a call to Grace Lutheran in San Marcus. In November 2005 Rev Martin Teske began serving as Intentional Interim Pastor.
