Centennial Moments

One doesn't travel too much throughout the Texas District of the Lutheran Church-Missouri Synod, without encountering the name "Heckmann". Which Heckmann are we addressing here? Well, he was "Papa" Heckmann, the Rev. Dr. E.A. Heckmann. . .the patriarch of the rest of the Heckmanns in Texas. Rev. Dr. E.A. Heckmann, in the early years of his ministry, was somewhat of a "circuit rider". Beginning in 1913, he served as pastor of Zion Lutheran Church in Abilene, Texas as his "home church". From that location, he traveled by M-K-T. Railroad serving a total of 13 congregations from Cisco to Big Spring. He left Abilene in 1926, accepting the call to Trinity Lutheran Church, Riesel, Texas. . .a rural parish some 20 miles from Waco. Trinty, Riesel, was, at that time, the largest congregation in the Texas District. He went on to serve as president of the Texas District from 1942-1948. A great man of God. . .Rev. Dr. E.A.Heckmann.
